Local Solidarity (Hardship) Fund 2022/23

Warwick UCU has a local hardship – what we refer to as our ‘solidarity’ – fund.  The local solidarity fund is designed to complement the provision from the National Fighting Fund, and where possible to fill in any potential “gaps”. It will prioritise members on hourly paid and other precarious contracts, and support people who would be left financially vulnerable after deductions.  Please also see Donate to the solidarity ‘hardship’ fund.

What is the UCU?

The University and College Union (UCU) is the trades union in the UK which works for professionals in higher and further education, including lecturers, researchers, and academic-related staff such as librarians, administrators and computing professionals. UCU is recognised by higher and further education employers at a national level, and by many individual institutions locally throughout the UK, for the purposes of negotiating salaries, pay structures and conditions of employment.

Warwick UCU is the local branch of the University and College Union, and we provide advice and support to members employed at the University of Warwick. We negotiate with the University on behalf of our members, for example on conditions of service.

We offer individual support for members in relation to difficulties encountered as part of their employment by Warwick. We all need support at work from time to time, and much of the UCU’s work is about supporting individual members whenever they feel a little help would be appreciated.

We are run by a committee, and welcome new committee members. Email our administrator if you would like to volunteer!

We currently have three #Covid19 related working groups. the New Lucas Plan for Education at Warwick; a health and safety working group and an online teaching working group. If you’d like to join, please email our administrator, Mandeep at administrator@warwickucu.org.

If you would like to join, click here to find out more about membership, including whether or not you are eligible to join.

We also have a page of useful links to web sites containing employment related help and information which we think are really useful for our members.
