The summer break seems a distant memory now as we’re well into the autumn term – with plenty for your Union and the Warwick branch to get stuck into with uncertainty and injustice across the sector and beyond. This includes standing in solidarity with our colleagues at the University of Leicester as voted by the branch in our all member meeting on 19th November. Contribute to the UoL Strike Fund here.
Members will be aware that a ballot is imminently concluding for UCU-wide industrial action, in tandem with our partner unions such as UNISON, in relation to the real-terms pay decrease over recent years and the disappointing offer from UCEA. This is nothing more than an earnest request for a just pay increase, in the face of increasing jeopardy for colleagues across the sector and rising wages for Vice Chancellors. Keep an eye on your inboxes for the outcome of that ballot, and we hope you will support the Warwick UCU in any action arising from it.
Over the term so far we have welcomed some new faces to the Warwick UCU Committee – Becks Andrew (Chair), Michael Macaulay (Membership Secretary), Katie Files & Angel Maria Varghese (Postgraduate Representatives), and Caroline Proctor (Casework Coordinator). Please continue to welcome and support them in their roles!
If you’re interested in getting involved with the Warwick Branch, we will soon be looking for a Communications Secretary to join the committee – contact chair@warwickucu.org.uk if you’re interested. Alternatively, if you’re interested in supporting members as a Caseworker – full training, support and induction to the role provided – please contact casework-coordinator@warwickucu.org.uk to find out what the role involves.
